Modern Kitchens
A kitchen that exudes tranquility
You can recognize a modern kitchen by its clean lines, understated cabinet fronts, and well-organized layout. Yet modern doesn’t have to mean cold or minimalist. With warm wood tones, soft colors, and a unique countertop, a modern kitchen can actually be very inviting.
What makes a kitchen modern?
In a modern kitchen, the emphasis is on clean, uncluttered lines. Flat cabinet fronts, wide drawers, and tall cabinet walls give the design a clear structure. Appliances are often built-in, and storage space is designated in specific areas, keeping the countertop as uncluttered as possible.
The choice of materials largely determines the look and feel. A kitchen with matte beige cabinet fronts and light wood looks very different from a design with dark cabinets and a bold countertop. Both can be modern, as long as the lines and proportions complement each other well.

Handle-free or a subtle detail
Handle-less fronts complement a modern kitchen well. Without protruding handles, the lines of the cabinets flow smoothly. There are several ways to achieve this effect, such as an integrated handle strip, a push-to-open system, or a subtle edge handle.
You’ll notice the differences most when using them. With push-to-open, you open a cabinet with a light press on the front. A handle strip, on the other hand, provides a fixed spot to grip a drawer or door. The finish also makes a difference: a handle strip in the same color as the cabinet front is barely noticeable, while black or metal adds a visible accent.
You can try out the different systems for yourself in the showroom.
Space for a kitchen island
A kitchen island fits well in a modern kitchen, especially when the kitchen is open to the living room. You can use the island for cooking, washing dishes, or as extra counter space. With a seating area next to the island, you also have a place to sit while you cook.
A kitchen island does require sufficient space, however. You need to be able to walk around it easily and have enough room to open drawers, cabinets, and appliances. Is the space a bit narrower? Then a peninsula can be a good alternative. This connects to a wall or cabinet unit on one side, so you need less walking space.

Color and warmth in a modern kitchen
A modern kitchen doesn’t have to be white or black. Beige, greige, taupe, and other natural tone give sleek cabinet fronts a warm look. Dark colors , such as anthracite and deep brown, give the design a more distinctive look. The countertop also plays an important role. A light-colored countertop can soften a dark kitchen, while a countertop with a distinct stone texture adds more contrast.
Wood also pairs well with modern kitchens. Consider a wooden cabinet wall combined with a solid-color kitchen island. You can choose a wood-look cabinet front or real wood veneer. With wood veneer, each cabinet front has a natural wood grain, while a wood-look finish often has a more uniform pattern. Which option you choose depends on the look you’re going for and the features that matter most to you.
Appliances that blend into the design
In modern kitchens, appliances are often integrated into the cabinets as much as possible. A refrigerator and dishwasher can be concealed behind cabinet fronts, while an oven is placed at a comfortable working height within a tall cabinet wall. This keeps the kitchen’s lines clean and makes the appliances easily accessible. A cooktop with an integrated range hood is another interesting option. The range hood is built into the cooktop, so you don’t need a traditional range hood above the kitchen island. This can be especially convenient in an open-concept kitchen, as it keeps the view toward the living room unobstructed.
When choosing appliances, don’t just consider their appearance, focus primarily on how you use the kitchen on a daily basis. Do you enjoy cooking elaborate meals, do you use the oven frequently, or do you need extra refrigerator space? By thinking this through in advance, you can ensure the layout and appliances are well-coordinated.

This modern Keller kitchen combines a cooking island with a cozy bar. The warm materials and soothing colors give the kitchen a welcoming atmosphere. Thanks to the open layout, cooking and socializing go hand in hand here.
The cooking island offers plenty of workspace and flows seamlessly into a bar where you can easily pull up a chair. The combination of sleek kitchen cabinet fronts and warm accents shows that a modern kitchen doesn’t have to look cold. A beautiful example of how a practical layout and an inviting atmosphere go hand in hand.
